Introduction
The Brighton & Hove History Maps are just a proposal at the moment but they offer the prospect of an exciting project that could give very easy access to a wealth of local history. It will provide a way to show the development of the city which is more immediate and detailed than anything currently available.
It will allow people to find the answers to their questions about the parts of the city which have most relevance to them. More than that, it will provide a mechanism for people to publish their own research into, for example:
The buildings they live, work or study in.
The park they regularly visit with their dog.
The cinema in which they spent their childhood Saturday mornings, since demolished.
The fields their grandparents remember walking in, now covered in suburban streets.
It will require the involvement of many interested parties to make it possible, but that's what it is – entirely possible.

You can view the proposal document on-line, rather than downloading it as a file, but please bear in mind that it has not been laid out with screen viewing in mind and it is just one, large, document which takes a while to download, even with a broadband connection.
